Our 2 year old was having trouble with his speech. He was talking some, but we felt he needed speech therapy. We found Calonda and his speech soared! I was worried about him paying attention, but she was so amazing with keeping him engaged and on task! He loved speech therapy from the start and looked forward to his appointments! The best part was she did at home sessions which made life with a newborn and toddler extremely convenient. She shared practical tips with me and taught me just as much as him on how to improve his speech. We saw progress almost immediately! He is now talking in full sentences, and so much more verbal than when he started! Thank you Calonda! I will be recommending you to everyone!

Calonda supervised myself over the summer for tele-therapy and I can say with full confidence she is the best boss/supervisor I have ever had. I want to take this time to thank you for everything you have done for my boys. They really enjoyed working with you and were always happy when they knew Mrs. Henry was picking them up from class. I want you to know that both boys have been dismissed from speech because they no longer need it. The lisp is completely gone and now they speak with such confidence. They are able to give speeches to their entire class and no longer worry about students laughing at them. We thank you for passionately doing your job and appreciate you staying in touch to see the outcome of your hard work.

My 4 year old was having problems getting her words out clearly and at first I thought it was due to overuse of a pacifier when she was younger so I assumed it would clear up , it never did. I reached out to Broad Horizons and set up the eval appt and my daughter just fell in love with Calonda. We started off with weekly in-home sessions until Covid 19 and then we switched to virtual sessions. My daughter looks forward to her appointments and although it takes a lot to keep a 4 year old engaged, Calonda does a great job and has amazing patience. I have also learned a great deal about speech myself and of course my daughter has made great improvements. Now she speaks much more clearly and tells everything which was ultimately the goal but it’s almost as if it happened overnight . My family and I will be forever grateful for the services Broad Horizons offers.

When Kade was 3 I began to search out a safe and knowledgeable SLP for him. I didn’t know where to turn. Even though I was a teacher I had not met anyone who could speak to me intelligently about not just speech services but LANGUAGE too. When I first met Calonda she was young and bright-eyed, but she knew more than all the educators and pediatricians I had ever encountered. By then Kade had been in speech and language and was well on his path but her ability to explain to me the why of his challenges and how those could and were being addressed convinced me that the best reading teacher in my school wasn’t the k-3 teachers, it was my SLP. Shockingly teachers do not receive the in-depth instruction in all the elements/foundations of reading. Reading starts well before children enter a classroom. It begins from the moment they begin to hear and make sounds. I could go on and on about this girl…she can help you understand your child’s needs and supports you as well as your child on the journey.
